Carolyn Sarah (Carey) Perry

April 4, 1925 — April 25, 2013

Carolyn S. Perry, 88, wife of the late Thomas James Perry, died Thursday, April 25, 2013. A native of Athens, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Ruby Lee Daniell Carey. Mrs. Perry was a graduate of Athens' University High School Class of 1941 and was enrolled at North Georgia College studying early childhood education when she became a War Bride before graduating. She was a member of Bogart United Methodist Church; and was owner and operator of Van Cleves Florist. Mrs. Perry was a seventh generation Athenian related to Robert Daniell Colonial Governor of the Colonies of South Carolina and of North Carolina whose eldest son, William Daniell of Charleston, South Carolina, and of Tom Bell Plantation New Bern, North Carolina, fought with Elijah Clarke, thus acquiring land on Daniell's Bridge Road for his service to the state of Georgia. Mrs. Perry was very involved in may civic and fraternal organizations: The Order of the Eastern Star Statham Chapter 316, Sorority House Mother for Alpha Delta Pi,member of National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars in the State of Georgia, member of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century Thomas Miller Chapter, member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Laura Rutherford Chapter and founding member of the following: Daughters of the American Colonist Governor Robert Daniell Chapter, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars Oconee War Chapter, Southern Dames of America Oconee Chapter, member of the Colonial Dames of America Chapter XXXIII, and National Society Daughters of the American Colonists Apalachee Chapter. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Perry's sons. Honorary Pallbearers will be The Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 316. Survivors include her children: Tommie Elaine (Gary) Shattuck of Athens, Georgia, James Carroll (Lori) Perry, Sherron Glenn (Kelly) Perry, Stanley Biff (Janice) Perry all of Anchorage, Alaska, Benjamin Joseph Perry of Los Angeles, CA., Carey (Meredith) O'Neal Perry of Oklahoma; brother, Benjamin Thayer Carey of Pikesville, NC, sisters-in-law, Kathryn Bentenbough Carey of Wilsonville, AL, and Betty Thorington of San Rafel, CA; eight grandchildren, Zachary Eugene Darling, Ruby Elaine Shattuck, James Bronson Perry, Matthew Biff Perry, Brian Thomas Perry, Lauren Taylor Perry, Hannah Elizabeth Perry and Dalton McNeil Perry, and one great grandson Oliver Noel Borbi Perry. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at 3PM at Lord & Stephens West Chapel with Rev. Megan Gomez officiating with Rev. Travis Sneed, Rev. Russell Repetsky, and Rev. Phil Williams assisting. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bogart United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bogart United Methodist Church Building Fund.
