Carolyn Ruth Maultsby, 59, of Watkinsville passed away on June 23, 2024.
Carolyn was born January 18, 1965 in Durham, North Carolina to Jonathan Lewis Alder and Ruth Ayendez Alder. She graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina with a BA in Political Science. While in college, she met her husband Paul Joseph “Joe” Maultsby; they married in 1988. After living in Greensboro and Asheville, NC and Colorado Springs, CO, Carolyn, Joe, and their three children settled in Watkinsville, GA in 1997.
Carolyn was very good with numbers and details and held many jobs in banking and office management. The last 10 years, she worked as a self-employed bookkeeper for many clients in the Watkinsville area. Carolyn was an extremely independent and self-assured person. She lived fearlessly and went for things she wanted, and she taught her children to seek the same in their own lives. There was no challenge she wouldn’t take on and she always had a project. Carolyn’s passion for politics continued throughout her life and she always stayed active in her community. Most recently she ran for Watkinsville City Council member on two different occasions. She loved history, music, reading, and puzzles. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. She loved all animals, especially her precious cats.
Above all, Carolyn was a devoted and loving mother who was always helpful and available for whatever her children needed. She made sure their lives were enriched intellectually and emotionally and that they could thrive on their own. Carolyn was a loving and caring person and was someone that you knew would be there for you whenever you needed her. She will be tremendously missed by her family and all who knew and loved her.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Ayendez Alder.
She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Joseph Maultsby, Sr.; her father, Jonathan Lewis Alder; her three children: Paul Joseph “Josh” Maultsby, Jr., Grace Abigail Maultsby, and Matthew Jonathan Maultsby; sister Joanna (Jason) Marshall; nephew Will Marshall; and niece Gabrielle Marshall.
