Carolyn Ledford Fortson

Carolyn Ledford Fortson passed away on January 20, 2014 surrounded by children and grandchildren.
Carolyn was born in Mooresville, TN on March 25, 1933. She was one of seven children of Ruth King Ledford and Brian Ledford. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science. While teaching in Columbus, GA, she met her husband, James Camp Fortson, who is now deceased. After marriage and a brief teaching career, she had three children. She and Jim raised a family in Athens, Georgia. Carolyn was an avid gardener and a past president of the Georgia Garden Club. She was a charter member of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church and a loyal supporter of the University of Georgia Athletics.
She is survived by three children, Lynne Milner of Manassas, VA, Phil Fortson of Crozet, VA and Brian Fortson of Athens, GA; four grandchildren, Mary Milner, Carolyn Fortson, Lane Milner and Camp Fortson; three sisters and a sister-in-law, Betty Roberts of Athens, AL, Amy Ledford, also of Athens, AL, Alice Foughner of Marietta, GA and Imogene Ledford of Lewisburg, TN.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Milledge Avenue Baptist Church, Athens, GA.
Close friends and family will be welcome to visit family at her home from 5:00 until 8:00 pm on Friday, January 24, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 25, 2014. A graveside ceremony will follow at 4:00 PM in Fortson, GA at Getzen Memorial Church Cemetery. She will be buried next to her husband.
Lord and Stephens, EAST, is in charge of arrangements.
