Carolyn Joan Cunningham, 85, of Athens, GA, and most recently of Grandin, FL, died on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
Born in Arkansas to Raymond Swartz and Inez Ridley Swartz, Joan moved across the country over the course of her adult life, living variously in Arkansas, Virginia, Puerto Rico, Texas, North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia. She managed a crafts business, Crafts by Cunninham, which she co-owned with her husband. In Norwood, NC, she directed her church choir. Along with her passion for music, she loved fishing and being out on the lake, especially in a pontoon boat. She was also an avid reader who devoured library books by the boxful.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Cunningham, Sr., and her stepson, David Cunningham.
Joan is survived by her three natural children: Carol (Eric) Hyatt, David (Connie) Jones, and Lisa (Craig) Alexander; three step-children: Charles Mitchell Cunningham, Audrey Diane (Leroy) Smith, and Roy (Anne) Cunningham, Jr.; several grandchildren; and many friends.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
