Carolina Wilson (kari) Halstead

Athens - Carolina (Kari) Wilson Halstead, 82, formerly of Decatur, GA and originally from New Jersey, died May 17, 2007. She graduated in 1942 from St. Mary's High School in Rutherford, NJ. Kari was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, William Robert Halstead, Sr. and a son Ronald Wilson Halstead.
Survivors include her sister, Marion Wassel, Bowie, MD; two daughters, Karol Lynn Patterson, Hull, GA and Deanne Lee McIntyre, Asheville, NC; a son, William Robert (Bob) Halstead, Jupiter, FL; nine grandchildren, Shawn R. Hill, Wm. Brett Hill, Adriel L. McIntyre, Cleary A. Broscius, Jamin S. McIntyre, Wm. Robert Halstead, III, H. Christa Halstead, Haley A. Halstead, Kari L. Halstead, a great grandson, Logan P. Hill and a great granddaughter, Kaitlyn P. Hill.
During WWII she worked for Bendix Aviation Corporation in New York until marriage after the War. Her married life began in Atlanta, Georgia, living later in Charlotte, NC, Gastonia, NC, Tallahassee, FL, Decatur, GA and Athens, GA..
During her lifetime she never met a stranger, was a devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, a great cook, cherished her Slovak heritage and loved to wear her shorts outfits year-round. She was a homemaker and a jeweler who loved to collect coins, Rockwell plates, and dolls. She hand sewed her childrenís clothes and was involved in numerous clubs, including Welcome Wagon, Newcomers, Silver Sneakers, YMCA, and in later years she clogged with the Funsters in Atlanta. She was always involved in the community wherever she lived.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 6pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Prince Avenue, Athens, GA.
Arrangements are being handled by Lord & Stephens, Danielsville, GA.
