Carol Lee (Schwope) Stegeman

Carol Lee Schwope Stegeman, 86, of Athens, GA passed away on July 20, 2022.

The daughter of the late Ida and Joseph Schwope, she was born on January 12, 1936 and raised in Covington, KY. She attended St. Mary's Nursing Academy. Upon graduation, she married the love of her life, Donald H. Stegeman on August 10, 1957. Carol worked as an RN and together with Don raised seven boys.

Carol is survived by five sons: Gregory (Linda), Jeffrey, Steven (Calire), John (Gina) and Joseph (Caroline); 15 grandchildren: Bradley, Samantha, Ashley, Shannon, Sydney, Jessica, Joshua, Jacob, Justin, Joseph, Peter, Chloe, Jonathon, Celine and Connor; and eight great-grandchildren: Emma, Olivia, Adam, Eli, Jackson, Ryker, Daisy and Jettie. She was preceded in death by her husband Don; two sons, Timothy and Paul; and two half-sisters, JoAnne Bremke and Frances Rachford.

A Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Catholic Center at UGA, 1344 S Lumpkins St, Athens, GA 30605. Committal will follow at Athens Memorial Gardens, 5195 Lexington Rd., Athens, GA 30605.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Center at UGA, 1344 S Lumpkins St, Athens, GA 30605.
