Carol Eberhart Slay

Carol Eberhart Slay, aged 80, passed away on April 2, 2025, due to complications from dementia at the Oaks Nursing facility in Athens, Georgia. She was born in Anniston, Alabama, on March 21, 1945, and was one of six children born to the late Ida M. Burgess and Walter Eberhart.

She is preceded in death by her husband William ‘Bill’ Slay, son William ‘Billy’ Slay, and younger brother Steve Eberhart.

In her late thirties, she achieved a lifelong goal by earning a nursing degree. Carol worked in various nursing positions throughout her career.

As a youth, Carol was an avid tomboy. She was a super fan of the singer Tom Jones in the 60s. Throughout her life she told corny jokes effortlessly. She had a strong aversion to technology, but a deep love for her dogs and sweets. She was an exceptional gardener. Carol was a member of the Winterville Baptist Church.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Fortson (Brian), and her granddaughter, Erica Power, both from Winterville, Georgia. Her surviving siblings include her sisters, Linda Iza of Florida, Diane Brewer of North Carolina, Janice Sand of Georgia, and her brother, Jim Eberhart of Georgia.

Expressions of sympathy through memorial contributions may be sent to the Winterville First Baptist Church in Winterville, GA. The Pastor Christian Colson will officiate the graveside service on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at 11 AM. Lord and Stephens East is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
