Carol Ann Herzog

Carol Ann (Grier) Herzog passed away on August 14, 2024. Carol was born in Middletown, Ohio on March 9, 1941 to E. Calhoun and Gertrude (Glass) Grier. Carol spent her childhood living in Middletown with her older sister Clarabel (Chinx) and older brother Perry. After graduating from Middletown High School, Carol attended Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan where she met her future husband, Fred David Herzog Jr.

Carol and Fred raised a family and lived in a number of communities including Marietta and Sandusky Ohio; Williamstown, West Virginia; Glens Falls, New York; Westford, Massachusetts and Athens, Georgia. Carol and Fred raised two sons, William David and Richard Alan. Carol had a number of occupations to support the family including teacher, bank teller and realtor. From their childhood, her children recall her home-made applesauce and strawberry preserves, canned peaches, and her sweet rolls for Christmas.

Carol was deeply involved in all the communities in which she lived and was a member of the Presbyterian church. Carol was an avid gardener, loved book club, playing bridge with friends and she took in stray cats and children in need of love. Carol was affectionately referred to as Mama-Zog by her children’s friends.

Carol is pre-deceased by her husband Fred, her brother Perry and her granddaughter Elizabeth Claire Herzog. Carol is survived by her sister, Clarabel Noyes, her two sons, William and Richard, and her grandson Miles Alexander Herzog.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, September 10 at 4:00 p.m. in the main gathering room at Highland Hills Village, 1660 Jennings Mill Parkway, Watkinsville, GA 30677.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Athens Community Council on Aging which Carol supported by driving for the Meals on Wheels program. https://acca.kindful.com/
