Carlene Arrington Jones

Carleen Arrington Jones of Oconee County, GA passed away on April 4, 2012 after suffering for several years with Alzheimer's disease. Carleen was born March 26, 1933 in York, Alabama and was the daughter of Douglas and Stella Arrington, both deceased. She is survived by her loving spouse of 56 years, Samuel B. Jones, Jr.; and children, Valerie Hinesley (Bill) of Bishop, GA; Velinda Block (Branson) of Birmingham, AL; Douglas Jones (Karen LaFortune) of Green Bay, WI; and grandchildren, Carleen and Catherine Hinesley; Cole Younger; Bradley and Samantha Jones; and Rhiannon LaFortune.
Carleen received BS and MED degrees in Education from Auburn University where she met her husband Sam, and later a six year degree from the University of Georgia. Carleen taught Home Economics and Biology at several schools during her career, retiring from Oconee County High School in 1987. Carleen was a member of the PEO Sisterhood for 43 years and was also active in the University Woman's Club. In 1982, Carleen and her husband established Piccadilly Farm, a plant nursery located in Oconee County. Carleen planted thousands of hellebores (lenten roses) as well as many other wonderful plants covering several acres of their property. The beautiful gardens that Carleen created are her legacy to her family, friends and visitors to Piccadilly Farm. Her burial service will be private and a memorial reception for friends and family will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in her honor may be made to the University of Georgia Botanical Garden.
