Carl "Hogie" Harter, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Winterville, Georgia on April 30, 2018.
Carl was born in Camden, New Jersey and he was the son of the late Newlin Hogeland Harter and Esther Banks Harter.
He spent his early years in Merchantville, New Jersey. As an adult, he lived most of his life in Reading, Lancaster and Wyomissing. His professional calling was sales and he thrived at it. He met many people over the years as a salesman and/or manager for some of the largest car dealers in Reading. These included Ciliberti Motors, Performance Motors and A.W. Golden.
He loved to travel with his wife Joan and tell stories of his adventures all over the world. One of his most beloved adventures was a trip on his sailboat from Maryland to the Bahamas and back which took over a year to complete.
After retirement, he spent his golden years in Port Charlotte, Florida and on a farm in Winterville, Georgia with his wife Joan and beloved dog, Fred.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan of 42 years, and children, Carl Ray Harter, husband to Donna (Reading, PA) and Debra Harter Furbish, wife of Paul Furbish (Winterville, GA) and John C. Harter. He is also survived by his loving sister, Alma Harter Vogels, who resides in Schwenksville, PA and a contingent of nieces and nephews. He loved his grandchildren tremendously and is survived by Jason (Jen), Justin, Emily and Anna and was blessed to have two great-grandsons, Colton and Anthony.
The family is planning a private celebration of his life. Prayers for comfort are appreciated at this sad time.
