Hugh Davis Ridgway, Jr., 87, of Athens, GA passed away peacefully at his home on March 3, 2023. He was the son of Hugh Davis Ridgway Sr. and Polly L. Ridgway. He was also preceded in death by his sister Marianne R. Griffith (Powell). Captain Ridgway is survived by his wife Lois Pszwaro and his three children Hugh Davis Ridgway III (Sara Ann) of Statesboro, Georgia, William Madison Ridgway of Eatonton, Georgia, and Emily Pamela Ridgway of Wayne, Pennsylvania. Other surviving relatives include his three grandchildren, William Chad Ridgway, Sara Emily Ridgway-Jones, and Kaitlynn Standford along with four great-grandchildren and three nephews and their families.
Captain Ridgway was born in Royston, Georgia October 21, 1935, and was raised in Eatonton, Georgia where he graduated from Putnam County High School and later attended the University of Georgia. He graduated from Mercer University in 1957. Upon graduation, Captain Ridgway entered the United States Navy where he graduated from flight training in 1958. He was a designated Naval Aviator in 1959 serving three years with the United States Navy in Hawaii and Japan. Upon his discharge in 1963, he was hired as a pilot for Eastern Airlines. After a twenty-six-year career with Eastern Airlines, Captain Ridgway retired in 1989 as a Captain on the Boeing 757. While finishing his career with Eastern, Captain Ridgway attended Atlanta Law School earning his Juris Doctor Degree in 1983. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1984. Upon retirement from Eastern, he practiced law in Dahlonega, Georgia until his full retirement in 1996.
Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. with service immediately following at Lord and Stephens funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
