Calvin Carl Seaquist, age 99, passed away peacefully December 3, 2024, at home in Hull, Georgia, after a long, well-lived life.
Calvin was born June 23, 1925, in Brooklyn, NY to Charles F. Seaquist and Olga Hokensen Seaquist. A veteran, Calvin served in the US Army during WWII, 1943-1945, earning his Combat Infantry Badge; his military service also included US Navy Reserves. Calvin attended Carnegie Mellon University, and after graduation, his work experiences were primarily in business management and the printing industry. He retired in 1985.
Calvin is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Doris Seaquist, son Gary Robert Seaquist, and his brother Charles Seaquist.
Calvin met his wife Virginia in Athens, Georgia and married her October 28, 1976. They enjoyed many years balancing a blended family, dancing with Oconee Whirlers, and dedicating time and effort working with their church community. Over his life, Calvin’s intelligence and natural curiosity led to hobbies including sailing, reading, solving puzzles, following the stock market, supporting education, traveling, and tinkering with all manner of cars and machines. He was a strong citizen who followed the concerns of the Athens-Clarke County municipalities. Calvin’s good works demonstrated faith in action. Many knew Mr. Cal as the donut man at church, Mr. Fix-it man, the tax-helper man, and the man who worked on cars. In his later years, he served as a volunteer for the Athens Welcome Center. He made an impact. His keen wit and sense of humor helped form many memories with his grandchildren. Most mornings he could be found on the porch listening to public radio and reading the paper. On fall Saturdays, he followed Georgia Bulldog football. He enthusiastically enjoyed the warmth of the South and being at the sea.
Calvin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia; his daughter Gwen Elizabeth Seaquist (Laurel) of Ithaca, NY; and his stepchildren William Authur Ball, Steven Lisle Ball, Kathleen Ball Scales (Steven), Susan Ball Croy (Roger), and Linda Ball Smith (Boyd). He was known as Grampy Cal to 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
There will not be a visitation or services. Calvin’s final resting place will be at Athens Memory Gardens in Athens, Georgia after a private family gathering at a later date.
We will miss him. We are feeling our loss but rejoicing that Calvin had a beautiful life and is now in heaven with his Savior.
Arrangements by Lord and Stephens, EAST.
