Bogart - Dr. Calfrey C. Calhoun, 78, died January 25, 2007.
Born in Soperton, Ga., he was the son of the late Vance Omer and Mary Blanche Anderson Calhoun and widower of Marjorie Rogers Calhoun.
Dr. Calhoun held four degrees, including Bachelors degrees from the University of Georgia and Georgia State University, Masters degree from Vanderbilt University and PhD from Ohio State University. He was a member of various clubs and organizations and was named National Business Education Association Collegiate Teacher of the Year in 1982. Dr. Calhoun was a retired professor from the University of Georgia School of Education following 25 years of service. He was retired Dean of the School of Technology at East Carolina University, Greenville, N.C., and retired from Southwest Georgia Regional Education Service Agency (RESA). Dr. Calhoun was a member of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School Teacher and Deacon.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Edward R. Bolen & Rev Claude McBride officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his children, Maria Calhoun Pittman (Royce), of Watkinsville, and Alan Calhoun (Millie), of Statham; sisters, Ramona Stephens, of Decatur and Eileen Odom, of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Harold Calhoun, of Soperton; four grandchildren, Connor Pittman, Meredith Pittman, Stephanie Calhoun and Nick Calhoun.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM and Saturday from 1:00 PM until service time at the church.
Memorials may be made to Milledge Aveunue Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
