Bruce Wayne Logan

October 26, 1947 — April 13, 2025

Athens, Georgia

Bruce Wayne Logan died peacefully on Palm Sunday surrounded by his loving family at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA. Raised in Guin, Alabama, a place that he was always proud to call home, Bruce made friends easily and excelled in both academics and athletics. He was a member of the Guin Church of Christ and attended Marion County High School, where he played basketball and football, was named to the Alabama All-State football team his senior year and was later inducted as a member of the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame. Following graduation from high school, Bruce attended Auburn University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and met his wife, Kathie. He earned a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn as well and was later recognized as a “Golden Eagle” by the Auburn University Alumni Association. While in graduate school, Bruce participated in a co-op professional program with IBM in Huntsville, Alabama, and was part of the research team that designed and built computer and navigation systems for the Saturn V rockets used by NASA in Apollo moon missions.

After college, Bruce and Kathie raised their family in Charlotte, N.C., where Bruce worked as a nuclear engineer for Duke Power Company (now Duke Energy) and was part of the scope risk team for both the McGuire and Catawba Nuclear Stations in the Carolinas. His work for Duke Power earned him the opportunity to join the prestigious Institute for Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) in Marietta, Georgia, where he was involved in the design and operations of nuclear power stations in Europe, Asia, South America and the United States. Following his time at INPO, Bruce finished his career as an engineer with RSC, a nuclear industry consultancy.

Beyond his professional work, Bruce was a renaissance man of sorts with a variety of interests and hobbies ranging from playing piano and folk guitar to WW1 airplane modeling to geneology to travel photography. But it was his roles as son, brother, husband, father and grandfather that he cherished most. In his later years, Bruce lived in Athens, Georgia, where he was always excited to share a “War Eagle!” with the rare fellow Auburn Tiger amid a sea of red and black.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Benjamin Clarence “Buddy” Logan, Jr. and Johnnie Lou Logan; and his wife Kathleen Bush “Kathie” Logan. He is survived by his brothers, David Logan (Bonita); Tim Logan (Judi); son Blair Logan (Emily); daughter Cameron Milligan (Justin); and grandson Connor Logan (himself an engineer), along with a host of beloved family and friends.

The family is planning a memorial service ceremony to be held in Bruce’s hometown of Guin, Alabama at a date to be determined later this year.

Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, Watkinsville is entrusted with arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com.
