Brian John LaHaie, 67, of Watkinsville passed away July 28, 2022 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born June 4, 1955 in Fort Knox, KY to Paul and Trevelyn LaHaie, and grew up in Peoria, Illinois.
Surviving are two children, Nicole (David) Aldridge and Adam (Paula) LaHaie, both of Atlanta, GA. Also surviving are four siblings: Jeffrey (Mary), Steven (Carol), Susan (Deb) and Dan (Karrie). He was also survived by his former wife, Jerri Jackson LaHaie. He was the proud grandfather to one granddaughter, Claire.
Brian earned degrees from Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois before beginning his academic career as a Professor of Landscape Architecture at Auburn University, where he taught for 15 years, developed a remote coastal design studio and served as the Alabama ASLA Chapter President and Trustee. In 2002, he accepted a position at the University of Georgia, continuing to teach a variety of Landscape and Design courses both home and abroad, and taking on several administrative roles before retiring in May of 2020.
Brian was passionate about his garden and his grill, and loved sharing gifts from each. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether it was hiking, golfing, fishing, kayaking or exploring parks. He was also a talented artist, whose contributions could regularly be found on display at the Oconee Culture Arts Foundation.
The family would like to thank all of Brian’s caregivers at Orchard Care Facility and Agape Hospice in Athens for the incredible kindness and compassionate care he received.
