Brenda Maxey Bales, 64 of Athens, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, Sunday January 1, 2012.
Mrs. Bales was born in Watkinsville, Georgia on September 5, 1947; she was the daughter of the late Marshall S. Maxey and Mildred H. Maxey of Watkinsville, Georgia. She was also preceded in death by two sisters. She was a retired bookkeeper and member of Ray's United Methodist Church. For the last 6 years, before her illness, she was a ladies auxiliary at St. Mary's Gift Shop. She had a true love for baking. A wonderful wife, mother and devout Christian, she touched may lives and will be tremendously missed.
Survivors include her husband Jim Bales of Athens; daughter Amy Bales and son Jamie Bales of Athens; sisters: Betty Whatley Maxey of Maysville and Shirley Marshall Patterson of Gainesville, several nieces and nephews, along with many great nieces and nephews who she loved as her grandchildren and her five loving cocker spaniels.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 1PM at Lord & Stephens West Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ace Marshall, Robert Whatley, Dan Tillett, Bruce Benefield, Gary Proterfield and Richard Maxey. Honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Farmer, Michael Durhan, Dustin Whatley and Cameron Whatley.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
