Bobby Swain Foster, a gentle and kind-hearted soul, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 14, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on December 13, 1936, in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, Bobby spent his life spreading love and warmth to those around him. A resident of Winterville, Georgia, he was a simple man, deeply committed to his family and faith, and will be remembered for his quiet strength and humble spirit. Bobby's life was filled with achievements that touched the lives of many. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1958, a testament to his dedication and patriotism.
After returning from service, he began a long and fulfilling career at Westinghouse/ABB, where he worked diligently for 36 and a half years. Bobby attended Oglethorpe County High School, where he played both basketball and baseball.
He carried this love of sports into his community, coaching AYO football and Little League Baseball at Satterfield Park. A devoted husband, Bobby shared 64 beautiful years with his beloved wife, Mary. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life. He taught Preschoolers in Sunday School for over 30 years. His gentle guidance and unwavering support left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He was an avid Georgia Football fan. GO, DAWGS! And enjoyed trout fishing.
Bobby built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. Whether it was the warmth of his smile, his steady presence, or the stories he told around the dinner table, Bobby had a way of making everyone feel at home.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father, James Dewey Foster; his mother, Gertie (Lowe) Foster; his brother Dewey Foster, his brother, James Edward Foster; his sister, Vernice Foster Isbell; and his brother, Roger Clifford Foster. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Foster; his sister, Gladys Foster Young; his son, James Robert Foster; and his daughter, Cynthia Foster Paulson and her husband, Chris. Bobby is also survived by Grandchildren James Reid Foster (Samantha) and Lawson Jane Foster Lewis (Kenny) and great-grandchildren Skylar and Stella Foster, Kalleigh, Tatum, and Baylor Lewis.
To know Bobby was to know a man of quiet faith, steady presence, and boundless love for his family. Whether he was sharing fishing stories, tending the grill, or simply sharing a cup of coffee with his wife. His legacy of kindness, humility, and unwavering love for family and community will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. In remembering Bobby, we celebrate a life well-lived and a soul that touched the hearts of many.
A memorial service will take place on Friday April 18, 2025 at 2:30 PM in the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East, 4355 Lexington Rd. Athens, GA 30605. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park.
