Bobby J. "BJ" Brooks

Bobby J. "BJ" Brooks, 83, husband of Dolores Hamby Brooks, died Friday, July 17, 2015. A native of Athens, he was the son of the late General Lee Brooks and Mildred Leseueur Brooks. He retired from the University of Georgia Parking Services after 20 years and had also worked for Gulf Life and United Family Life Insurance Companies. He served in the US Air Force for 8 years and was a member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to his wife include three children and their spouses: Mike and Deborah Brooks of Bishop, Vicki and Jerry Long of Winterville, Pam and Scott Hackney of Culleoka, TN; sister: Willie Faye Bates; brother: O'Neil (Ann) Brooks; grandchildren: Christy (Corey) Jones, Bryant (Marisol Mills) Brooks, Adam Long, Alex Long and Jordan Hackney; great grandchildren: Bryson Jones, Braelyn Jones and Caleb Brooks. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 4PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Revs. Jack Segars and Charles Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mars Hill Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
