Bobbie Delony Lindstrom passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016. She was at home in Athens, Georgia, with her beloved husband of 49 years.
Bobbie was born November 28, 1946, to Madge Folsom Delony and Murl Delony. She grew up in the small town of Ozark, Alabama. Bobbie attended Auburn University, where she met the love of her life, Bill Lindstrom. They married on September 9, 1967, and in 1969, their daughter Christian was born, followed by son Will in 1970. Bobbie finished her undergraduate degree in early childhood education at Clemson University.
In 1973, they moved to Charleston, where they lived for 39 years. Bobbie earned her master's degree in early childhood education from the College of Charleston and taught kindergarten for a time.
In 1990, Bobbie went to work for the College of Charleston, eventually directing all services for students with disabilities. She relieved the stress of work with her beloved and rambunctious dogs Rosie, Daisy, Beaufort, Winnie, and Maggie Rose. With Bill, they trained them as therapy dogs and regularly brought them to hospitals and retirement homes.
Exuberance was one of Bobbie's defining characteristics, whether it was in her rendition of the Maple Leaf Rag on the household piano, cheering at her children's soccer games, her uncontrollable laughter, or the way she loved watermelon.
Bobbie considered herself richly blessed, and never complained openly of her Addison's disease, a rare, chronic, and debilitating illness. She remained deeply grateful to Dr. Allan Lieberman of Charleston who provided her relief when so many could not. Later in life, she struggled with Alzheimer's Disease.
Bobbie is survived by her husband, Bill; daughter Christian, her wife, Lisa, and granddaughter Lilah; and son Will, his wife, Jennifer, granddaughter Harper, and grandson Emmett.
