Bob J. Dickens, 88, died Friday, July 4, 2014.

Born July 2, 1926, Bob was the son of the late Fonnie F. Dickens, Sr. and Annie Lou Jones Dickens and was a native and lifelong resident of Oconee County. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Jane Hardigree Dickens, three brothers, Ralph Dickens, A.P. Dickens, F.F. (Pooster) Dickens, Jr., and granddaughter Laura Costa.

Bob was the owner of Dickens Wholesale and was employed with Hav-A-Tampa, Inc. for a number of years and retired from Thornton Brothers Paper Company in 1989 as a Sales Representative. He served his Country in the US Army during WWII.

Bob served 33 years on the Board of Directors of Walton EMC from 1961 to June of 1994. During this time he was Vice President 1980-1981 and President from 1982 to 1986. He also served on the Board of Directors for Rayle EMC from March 1987 to May 1994.

He was a member of Watkinsville First Christian Church where he served as deacon, charter member of the Oconee County Lions Club, charter member of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce since 1975, VFW Post 9147 member as well as a Mason and Shriner. He was a longtime member of the Georgia Bulldog Club as well as a life-time Georgia Bulldog fan.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Costa Dickens, two sons and daughter-in- laws, Gerry (Debra) Dickens, Stanley (Elaine) Dickens, step sons, John (Sandy) Costa and Robert Costa; grandchildren: Christy Dickens, Jennifer Dickens, Camille (Brian) Dickey, Tripp Edwards, Kelly (Cord) Marlowe, Anthony (Jessica) Costa, Phillip (Rebecca) Costa, Harrison Costa, Abigail Costa, Julie (Bill) Banks and Bob Costa, fourteen grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, 2014 at 11AM at Lord and Stephens West Chapel with Dr. Franklin Shumake and Rev. Anthony Costa officiating. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Dickens, Doug Dickens, Paul Woodworth, Matt Dickens, Charles Anthony Evans, Jr. and Derek Edwards.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the funeral home. The family will be at the residence of his son and daughter in law, Stan and Elaine Dickens.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Shriners Hospitals for Children Fund, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or The Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes, Inc., 3000 Hwy 42 N., Stockbridge, GA 30281.

Lord and Stephens West is in charge of arrangements.
