Beverly Anne (“Bev”) Parks of Athens, Georgia died peacefully while taking a nap on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021 following recent hospital and rehab stays. She was 83. Bev was youngest of five children born to the late William B. and Annie Jackson Parks of Athens.
Bev worked her entire career in Athens in various secretarial and administrative roles, her last active employment prior to retirement being with Salloum Construction.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Bob and Bo and her sisters, Mildred and Sue. She is survived by several nieces and nephews: Mark Lawrence, Robert Parks, Susan Edmiston, and Bill Parks in Georgia, Lisa Ferrell in North Carolina and Lana Martin in North Dakota.
Bev was a dear friend and was loved by many. She was always ready to crack a joke but she was a sincere friend and a great listener. Although she never had children of her own and never married, many of Bev’s friends viewed her as a “mother figure.” Bev was treasured as a grandmother in the Lawrence family and a diligent “prayer warrior” to all who knew her. She was generous and never wanted to “be a burden” to anyone and could rattle off many of her friends’ phone numbers from memory without having to look them up. She is loved and will be missed by many of the special people in her life.
Bev loved her apartment and neighbors at Lanier Gardens. When she was able, she loved to cook cornbread and vegetables and often shared some with her neighbors. She was disappointed when it was decided she would need to move into a nursing facility for round-the-clock care and she was to have moved out of her apartment on July 1st , but, praise be to our Savior, Jesus Christ - He had an even better move planned!
At Bev’s request, a brief graveside service is planned for July 22nd at 2pm at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider donating in Bev’s memory to the Wesley Woods Foundation (https://www.wesleywoods.org/donate/) who manage Lanier Gardens.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, Watkinsville is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com.
