Betty “Bete” Katherine Ransom Wright, 85, of Athens, GA, entered Heaven’s gates on December 1, 2022.
Born on March 16, 1937, in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, Bete was the daughter of the late Orville and Bertha Ransom. She graduated from Hickory Ridge (AR) High School in 1954.
Bete was a resident of Athens for over 50 years. She worked at Athens Regional Hospital (now Piedmont Hospital) for more than thirty years in the admissions department. Bete loved spending time with her family and friends and she never wanted to miss a family get-together or reunion. She was active in her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved being involved with the missionaries and the Women’s Relief Society. Bete also had a big heart for animals and always had pets.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Annabelle Taylor of Memphis, TN and Maxine Fort of Clarksville, TN.
Bete is survived by her husband of 52 years, Len Wright; her daughter, Dona Yanke (Robert) of Leawood, KS; son, Timothy (Lorri) Moore of Statham, GA; and daughter, Randi Gilbert of Athens, GA; grandchildren: Patrick Cobb (Andrea) of Lees Summit, MO; Zeb Gilbert (Selina) of Danielsville, GA; Logan Cobb of Denver, CO; Chip Moore (Nicole) of Statham, GA; Shawn Moore of Berlin, Germany; Alex Moore (Lauren) of Athens; and Katherine “Katie” Yanke of Leawood, KS; and great-grandchildren: Darby Cobb, Charlotte Gilbert, Hunter Cobb, Pace Moore, Zeb Gilbert, Jr., and Wally Moore.
The family offers a special, heartfelt thank you to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Bete’s good friend, April, for the countless hours of sitting with Bete over the last five months.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1080 Julian Drive, Watkinsville, GA, 30677. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Oconee Memorial Park. A reception will be held for family and friends at the church following the interment.
