Lexington, GA - Betty Jo Whelchel, 74, died February 24, 2009.
Born in Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Jesse Starling Underwood and Nellie Millwood Underwood and preceded in death by a brother, Alan Underwood. She was employed with Oglethorpe County High School Cafeteria for 19 years. She was a loving and gracious mother and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her children, Patricia Taylor May of Gibson, Vickie Lynn Johnson of Elberton, Emmett Lee Whelchel of Comer and Jimmy Ray Whelchel of Lexington; sisters, Alleen Hudson and Mary Hyde of Buford and Virginia Hannah Ashmore of Lexington; 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 27, 2009 at 12:00 Noon at Pentecost Chapel with Rev. Pierce Ashmore, Rev. Glenn Henley and Mr. Gerald Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Enon Cemetery, Woodstock at 3:00 PM.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Lord and Stephens Oglethorpe Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
