Comer - Betty Pridgen Melton, 79, died August 20, 2006.
A native of Pike County, AL, she was a former resident of Opelika, AL, Phenix City, AL, and Gainesville, GA. She was a daughter of the late Franklin and Addie Williams Grissett, and was preceded in death by her first husband, Willie C. Pridgen; two brothers, Hayward Grissett and Willie Grissett; and two sisters, Bernice McLeod and Helen Grissett. Mrs. Melton was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Gainesville, GA and recently attended Compass Community Church in Athens, GA.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST with Revs. J. L. Yopp and James Carpenter officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include her husband, Troy Melton of Comer; four children, Margaret (Sezai) Gursel of Atlanta, W. Sam (Brenda) Pridgen of Opelika, AL, Jim E. (Nancy) Pridgen, Sr. of Comer, Dan (Linda) Pridgen of Athens; one brother, Roy Grissett; two sisters, Viola Wilson and Mildred Johnson; eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. They are Clint Pridgen, Keith Pridgen, Scott Pridgen, Daniel Pridgen, Jimmy E. "Jay" Pridgen, Jr., and Greg Stafford.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until service time.
Lord and Stephens, WEST, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Bogart, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
