Betty Wright McCowan

Betty Wright McCowan, 89, died February 18, 2020.

Born in Rome, GA, she was a daughter of the late Joel Swanson Saylor and Jessie Quinn Saylor and was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Wright, Jr. in 1978. She later remarried and was preceded in death by Julian Clay McCowan.

Betty made her home in Marietta most of her life, moving to Athens 15 years ago.  She was retired from AT&T and was a longtime member of the Telephone Pioneers in both Atlanta and Athens and was a member of Athens First United Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Crest Lawn Memorial Park, Atlanta.

Survivors include her daughter, Claudia Wright Shamp of Athens;  brother, Joel Allen Saylor of Hiawassee; sister, Dorothy Saylor Tribble of Austell; grandchildren, Walter Eugene Shamp and Wright Ashley Shamp; niece, Stacey Leigh Tribble and nephew, Travis Burton Saylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
