Betty Jo Smith, 73, of Carlton, wife of the late John Winfred "Wink" Smith, died Friday, May 5, 2006 at Elberton Memorial Hospital.
Born in Lexington, GA, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Fannie Thaxton Poulnott. She was a member of Carlton Baptist Church and had also attended Riverside Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith retired form Comer Manufacturing in 1977. She dearly loved her family and caring for others especially her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Robert Poulnott.
Survivors include her daughters; Patsy Smith Bird of Carlton, Sonya Smith Carter and her husband Ben Carter of Colbert, grandchildren; Tashua England, Stephanie England, Adam Carter, Brad Bird, Bryan Bird, Brent Bird, Amanda Bird, Brandon Bird, Andrea Bird, Ashley Bird, great grandson, Conner Bradley Bird, sister in law, Hazel Poulnott, and one niece, Brenda Ann Poulnott.
Funeral services will be held 3PM, Monday, May 8, 2006 at Carlton Baptist Church with Revs. Joe Wood, Dennis Nix and Lee Adams officiating. Burial will be at Carlton Cemetery. In addition to her grandsons, Steve Johnson, Jerry Bird and Jason Sands will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Carlton Baptist Church or to Riverside Baptist Church.
