Commerce - Betty Hankins, 68, died June 27, 2007 while traveling with her husband, Robert.
Born in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of the late Charles Frederick John Werner, Jr. and Mary Louise Goffinet Werner.
Betty grew up in Tell City, Indiana. Some of her favorite pastimes as a child included playing Roy Rogers, riding her pinto pony, June, and spending time with her dad. During her high school years, Betty excelled in both academics and music. She became an accomplished pianist, played the clarinet, and sang in the Rainbow Trio. She attended college at Indiana State University where she obtained both a bachelors and masters degree in education.
Her teaching years were spent in Volusia County, Florida where she raised her two daughters. She later moved to Georgia to be closer to her daughter Joan and granddaughter Tara. It was here that she met Robert Hankins, also an accomplished musician, and they resided in Commerce.
Betty will be remembered for her sense of humor. She never forgot how to play and have fun in life. She was a lover of truth and beauty. Betty tried to know God's will and do it. She was God's vessel. Betty was a devoted mom and will always be greatly loved.
