Betty Rush Tate DeLorme, of Milledge Circle, Athens, Georgia, died September 1, 2016.
She was the oldest daughter of the late Melvin Greyson Tate, Sr. and the late Esther Hammett Tate, and the stepdaughter of the late Mary Jim Horton Tate. She was preceded in death by her only brother, Melvin Greyson Tate, Jr.
Ms. DeLorme was born in Greenwood, South Carolina and lived in Ware Shoals and Pendleton, South Carolina in her youth. She graduated from Limestone College (Gaffney, South Carolina) where she was President of the Student Government Association (1961-1962). She moved to Athens in 1968, volunteered with various organizations including St. Josephs School, and served as President of the University Woman's Club and the Athens Junior League.
Ms. DeLorme worked in Guest Services at Athens Regional Medical Center for 20 plus years for and with Developmental Therapy - Teaching Programs at the University of Georgia . Helping others was her faith mission. The beauty of nature, writing, genealogy, antiques and collectibles were added pleasures in her life. Ms. Delorme treasured her immediate and extended family, deeply valued her friends and neighbors, and was a devoted mother and sister.
She is survived by her beloved family: daughter, Denise Elizabeth DeLorme and husband Scott Hagen, of Baton Rouge, La; son, Charles DuBose Delorme, III (Chuck) of Folly beach SC and Athens, Georgia; and former husband, Charles DuBose DeLorme, Jr. of Athens, Georgia; other immediate family includes: Sisters, Joan Tate Adams (Mrs. R.L), Rock Hill, South Carolina and Nancy Tate Hellams (Mrs. James), Pendleton, South Carolina; Sister-in-law, Tina Haynes Dulany (Mrs. Tom), Marietta, Georgia; Stepsister, Elizabeth Horton Rasor (Mrs. Jake), Cross Hill, South Carolina; Stepbrother, Horace P. Horton, Columbia, South Carolina; former sister-in-law, Ellen Benik Thompson (Mrs. Van), Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Her extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews reside primarily in South Carolina, North Georgia, and Utah.
The family requests that memorials be made to a charity of personal choice.
