Watkinsville, GA - Berry W. Fite, 89, died May 21, 2006.
Born in Gordon County, he was the son of the late Baxter Beverly and Bertha Thibedeau Fite and was preceded in death by a son, B. Wilson Fite. Mr. Fite was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of WW II, serving 41/2 years. He was a decorated officer, reaching the rank of Lt. Colonel. Mr. Fite was a graduate of Berry College, Rome, GA and was employed with Burroughs Corporation, retiring as Sales Manager with 42 years of service. After retirement, he was associated with Bunton and Peace Associates. Mr. Fite moved to Watkinsville in 1999. He was a lifetime member of Rotary and member of Central Presbyterian Church, Athens.
Services will be Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bob Bohler and Rev. Charlie Cook officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 PM in Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Etta M. Fite; son and daughter in law, Wiley M. and Catherine Fite of Watkinsville; daughter in law, Lindsay C. Fite of Hilton Head, SC; grandchildren, Whitney Lee Fite (Laura) of Atlanta, Courtney Fite Gover (Joe) of Baltimore, MD, Elizabeth Fite and Austin Fite of Watkinsville; great grandchildren, Morgan, Dylan and Lauren Fite of Atlanta; sisters, Melba Gray, Eloise Carver, Hortense Drummond; brothers, Baxter Fite and Bill Fite and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice, P.O. Box 6588, Athens, GA, 30604 or Central Presbyterian Church Building Tomorrow Together Fund, 380 Alps Road, Athens, GA, 30606.
