Bennie Anthony Heard

Bennie Anthony Heard passed away on March 21, 2025. She was born December 31, 1925 to the late, Maude and Fred Anthony. She was 99 years old. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 50 plus years, J.Paul Heard; son, Phillip Heard; siblings, June Elder, Francis Anthony, and Jack Anthony.

A Private Service will take place.

Survivors include: daughter, June Heard (Ronnie Jones) of Athens; granddaughter, Suzanna Jones Karatassos (Eli) of Center, GA; great granddaughter, Bianca Karatassos of Center, GA; nephew, Jerry Anthony of Athens, GA; nieces, Jane Carroll (Dave) of Vidalia, GA, Denise Usehof (Robert) of Augusta, GA, Debra Kimels (Howard).

Mrs. Heard graduated Benton High School, Young Harris College, and University of Georgia. She was a great Bulldogs Fan. She moved to Cedartown, GA where she taught school for 30 years. After her husband retired from Holmes Clothing Co., they moved to Flagler Beach, FL and lived several years then came back to Athens, GA.

She loved children and teaching. Often she had neighborhood children who came to her for help with schoolwork. Reading was her passion and she was an avid reader . She spent her last 5 years living in Athens, with her daughter. She loved watching the birds and water fowl and was always watching for deer. She also loved the family’s standard poodle, Silva, they spent many hours together. She was of the Methodist Faith.
