Beatrice "Bea" Crowell Hansford of Athens, Georgia passed away on June 24, 2017. She was 61 years old. Bea was a beautiful person inside and out, loving her family and friends to the fullest. Although a resident of Athens for nearly 40 years, Bea, the only girl among her four siblings, grew up in Atlanta on Harte Drive, making many fond memories while attending Stuart Avenue Methodist Church and Sylvan Hills High School. As an adult, Bea moved to Athens where she pursued her career as a dental hygienist. She worked for Dr. Barry Simons for a short time, soon after she found herself as a good fit at Dr. David Hulsey's office in Five Points. She very much enjoyed getting to know her co-workers and visiting with her patients. Shortly after she moved to Athens, she met her future husband, Gary Hansford. They were happily married for 34 years, traveling the world together and raising their daughter, Sarah. Bea was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. She was a kind-hearted, gentle and loving wife, mother, sister and aunt.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Hansford; daughter, Sarah (Michael) Jones; her brothers, Jeffery Doyle (Cookie) Crowell, George (Anne) Crowell, Bill (Helen Marie) Crowell and Jay (Sherree) Crowell; sister-in-law, Kay (Wayne) McLeroy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close-as-family friends.
A service of remembrance and celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) under the leadership of Rev. Alan Mace and Rev. Ray Austin, following calling hours from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
