Barry Butler Harper, born June 30, 1941, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday night, October 16, 2013.
Her memorial service will be held at the Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, West Chapel, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Bogart, GA. Visitation will be available before and after a chapel service at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Barry was born in Covington, GA, June 30, 1941, and moved to Eustis, in Central Florida, when she was 8 years old, where she spent most of her life. She attended Eustis High School, University of Florida, and Seminole Community College, Sanford, FL, where she graduated with her LPN. As a nurse, she spent the largest part of her career as an administrator of a general medicine practice in Winter Park, FL. She also worked as a nurse in a hospital, taught nursing, and served as a nursing administrator for Florida Hospital. Not only was she smart, but she also had a great sense of humor and a keen intellect. She retired in 2006 and became the wife of Dr. Lowry Harper of Watkinsville, GA, and has been a resident of Watkinsville since her marriage and retirement. She was quite at home in the Georgia countryside since it was the land of her birth, and she had a deep southern belle accent. Her favorite activities were working in her herb and vegetable gardens, collecting cookbooks, and cooking. She also loved travelling and, when her health allowed, she and Lowry travelled across the world enjoying trips throughout the United States, Canada, Ireland, Austria, Italy, Germany, France, and other parts of Europe.
She and Lowry were teenage friends who reconnected at their 40th high school reunion and eventually married.
Barry was the daughter of Hugh and Louise Butler. She is survived by her husband, Lowry A. Harper; son Kirk (and wife Christianne) Squires; daughter Heather (and husband Dave) Hubbard; sister Lou Ann (and husband Terry) Demott; nieces Allison and Brie; and grandchildren Abbey and Christian Hubbard, who were very dear to her.
As she succumbed to cancer, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in her honor.
