Barbara Jean Peters Jones, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 24, 2022.
Born in Ringgold, GA, she was predeceased by her parents, Arvel Tuck Peters and Marie Akins Peters, step-mother Crystal Peters, her grandson, Chase Jones and her husband of 52 years, Gordon Jones. Jean attended North Georgia College and received her Associates Degree before returning home where she met her husband.
Jean worked several different secretarial jobs including Mealer Real Estate and Smoke Services of Atlanta during her lifetime. However, her heart was always with her family, church, relatives and friends. She was a devoted mother, leading girl scouts and cheerleading squads for her daughter and attending countless sporting events of her two sons. Some of the favorite activities her children enjoyed with her were, drive-in movies (back in the day), camping, 4th of July celebrations in Ringgold with many relatives, beach trips and Christmas in Ringgold to name a few. She was a devoted grandmother as well. She and her husband would keep their grandchildren often and take them on unforgettable trips! Jean left her loved ones with many lifelong memories of special times together.
Jean is survived by her sons, Jerry (Amy) Jones, Sid (Leslie) Jones, daughter, Candice (John) Barnette, one sister, Marilyn (Jimmy) Fowler, one brother, Dean (Tammy) Peters, step-sister, June Wood, step-brother Jerry Treadwell, four grandsons, Cliff (Rebekah) Barnette, Casey (Christian) Jones, Ryan (Lucy) Jones, Tyler Jones, two step grandsons, two granddaughters, Brittanie (T.J.) Brennan, Hailey (Kyle) Williams and seven great-grandchildren, Jackson Barnette, Sadie Grace Barnette, Elijah Barnette, Charlotte Brennan, Collins Brennan, Tristan Barnette, Jones Paul Williams and many other relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, 11:30am at Friendship Primitive Baptist Church, 851 Ooltewah Ringgold Rd. Ringgold, GA. 30736. Brother Wayne Peters, Jean’s first cousin, will be officiating the service.
