Barbara Elder Lester

Athens - Barbara E. Lester died peacefully January 28, 2008. Full of grace and charm, Barbara was considered to be a traditional southern "Old Athens" woman loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Barbara lived at Iris Place Retirement Community and was one of the first residents to move there. She enjoyed meeting new residents and doing her best to make them feel welcomed.
Born and raised in Oconee County, Barbara married the Honorable Judge Raymond E. Lester in 1951. Barbara and Raymond were both active in the Athens Elks Club which is also where they had their first date.
Survivors include her brother David Mayne Elder (June) of Talmage Terrace, Athens, Sons; Alfred C. Lester (Linda) Athens, David R. Lester (Jane), Watkinsville and Grandchildren Andrea, Jon, and Andrew.
Visitation and celebration of Barbaraís life will be at Lord and Stephens West (off Jimmy Daniel Road) on January 31 between 4:00 and 6:00 pm with Services to follow also at Lord and Stephens West. Contributions can be made to St. Maryís Hospice House, Jennings Mill Road. Lord & Stephens, West is in charge of arrangements.
