Azalee Murry, age 98, died Sunday, May 13, 2012.
Ms. Murry was born December 1, 1913, to the Late H. M. "Mart" Williams and Cora Addison Williams and was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
She grew up in the Broad River Community of Franklin County, where father farmed and she attended Broad River Baptist Church. As a young woman, Ms. Murry went to live with her cousins in Danielsville. While living and working in Danielsville, she met her future husband, Paul Murry. She and Paul were married on September 28, 1935 and made their home in Hull, Georgia. Upon moving to Hull, Ms. Murry joined Hull Baptist Church where she remained an active member for the rest of her life. She served in a wide variety of church capacities including teaching Sunday School, leading Girls Auxiliary, teaching Vacation Bible School and singing in the choir. Ms. Murry had a lifelong passion for visiting the sick and homebound. She worked for a number of years for the Madison County School System as the head dietician at Colbert Elementary School. Ms. Murry was later employed by the Lamar Lewis Shoe Company where she remained a faithful employee for 25 years. During that time she developed a large following of regular customers. She was known and admired by family and friends for her hospitality, including her exceptional gift for cooking, entertaining and good fellowship. Ms. Murry's exuberance and enthusiasm for life and joy for the Lord was contagious to all who encountered her.
Ms. Murry is survived by her daughter, Peggy Murry Lord (Dr. C.B. Lord) of Athens; grandchildren: Dr. Linda M. Lord of Athens, Timothy Murry Lord of Jacksonville, FL, one great grandson, Benjamin Edward Lord of Jacksonville, FL and a large number of dearly loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 11AM at Hull Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Burial will follow at Old Hull Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hull Baptist Church.
