Arnoldsville, GA - Auburn Preston Adams, 76, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013.
Auburn was born in Millstead, GA (Rockdale County) and moved to Athens at the age of one year old. He was the son of George Franklin Adams and Ollie McIntyre Adams, and was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Denise Adams.
Auburn started his career in a machine shop while attending Athens High School. Following graduation, he attended UGA for two years and worked at Basham Welding and Machine Shop as a machinist for 12 years. He then changed careers to the insurance business. In 1969 he went to work for the Independent Life Insurance Company, later American General until his retirement in April 2000. He was a member of East Athens Baptist Church since 1968,
East Athens Civitan Club, Life Underwriters and U.S. Army Reserves.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Malinda Herring Adams and a son, Edward Preston Adams; siblings, Marvin Franklin Adams, Mildred Adams Hopkins and Clinton George Adams (Joyce), all of Athens; 6 nephews and 1 niece.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 3:00 PM at East Athens Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Wuerzer officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Tracy Adams, Alex Adams, Mark Adams, Robert Adams,
Steve Hopkins and Jeff Hopkins
Honorary pallbearers will be the Weyman Kelley Sunday School Class along with Doug Tatum, Milton Broome, Neil Hefner, Forrest Hines and Mark Norman.
A special thank you to the nurses of Gentiva Hospice, especially Tracie Whatley, social worker, Reggie Erwin and Chaplain, Hugh Minor.
Flowers are optional. Donations may be made to the Building Fund of East Athens Baptist Church or Gentiva Hospice.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.
Lord and Stephens, EAST is in charge of arrangements.
