Aubrey Joe Duncan, 78, of Hull, GA. Passed away after a year- long battle with cancer Friday, February 17, 2012.
Born in the Goldmine area of Hart County, he spent his boyhood on a farm in Franklin County. He was a graduate of Royston High School and attended Emmanuel College. Mr. Duncan served on three Navy ships in his almost 4 year service to his county in the Korean War. He began his career as a barber on board the Navy ship the "Guadalupe-AO32". When he returned home he cut hair in a shop at the Greyhound Bus Station in downtown Atlanta. He and his brother Raymond opened MR. HAIRCUT on Board Street, Athens in June of 1957, where he continued to work until his retirement in 2001 with some 48 years in haircutting business. Several years before retiring, Mr. Duncan started Duncan Farm Equipment, selling farm equipment and hauling-trailers to the public. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and spent many Saturday afternoon's watching the Georgia Bulldogs play at the stadium.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jackie Duncan of Hull, two daughters Theresa Cleghorne and Lisa Paski, two son-on-laws Sam Cleghorne and Nick Paski all of Comer, GA. He had four wonderful grandchildren; Ryan and Samantha Cleghorne and Jessica and Elijah Paski. Other family include; Raymond and Helen Duncan of Athens, Dewey and Jean Bass of Marietta, and Frank and Darlene Duncan of Comer, Ga. He also had a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many, many friends who will miss him greatly.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Lord and Stephens Danielsville Chapel, Hwy 98 with Reverends' Raymond Duncan and Reggie Vaughn will officiating.
Visitation will be between 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Lord and Stephens Danielsville Chapel.
In place of flowers, donation to Camp Maranatha, 170 Floyd Road, Ila, GA 30647 would be appreciated.
