Arlan Lloyd Zimmerman went home to be with the Lord on September 3, 2018, two days after his 80thbirthday. Born September 1, 1938, in LeMars, IA, and reared in rural Minnesota, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Shirley Zimmerman.
After serving in the US Navy for 3 years, he was employed by IBM for 32 years as a Systems Engineer and continued as Water’s Edge Consulting for 10 years. His career was spent in Atlanta, Macon, and Lake Sinclair, before retiring in Athens. He was a devout Christian, a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. He had been a Gideon for 30 years before he retired. He loved driving his antique cars, square dancing, bowling, and volunteering at Athens Regional Medical Center.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years: Vonnie, two sons: Keith (Ashley) of Athens, and Brad (Becky) of Stockbridge, five grandchildren: Sybil, Zachary (Tiffany), Abigail Croft (Jared), Bryce, Olivia Johnson (Tyler), two great-grandchildren: Maverick Yacono (Bryce) and Autumn (Zachary), and seven nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a sister, Leann LaBarre (Thomas) of St. Paul, Mn.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11 AM at Lord and Stephens West. Visitation will be at 10 AM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Gideons International or Prince Avenue Baptist Church Music Ministry.
