Anthony Michael LaMorte

Anthony Michael LaMorte, 58, of Athens, died on Saturday, May 23, 2021.
Born in Oakland, CA on August 9, 1962, Tony lived almost his entire life in the Athens area. After high school he received a swimming scholarship to the University of Tennessee Knoxville, where he was a letterman. He later graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Georgia. Tony worked for 19 years at Athens Regional Hospital as a transporter. He was a good friend and memorable character to all who knew him, especially his many friends made through Alcoholics Anonymous and as a swimming instructor at the Cedar Creek pool.
Tony was preceded in death by his father, Michael Wolfgang LaMorte.
He is survived by his son, Anton Michael LaMorte; his mother, Margaret McKay LaMorte; siblings: Michele Marie (Bishara) LaMorte-Shbat, Annette Isabelle LaMorte, and James Robert LaMorte; and nephews Alexander McKay Leach and Nathan Christopher Leach.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Lord and Stephens, East Chapel at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. A private interment will follow the service.
