Anne Aycock Sansing was born in Atlanta, GA on Sept. 20, 1935, and died Wednesday, April 16, 2014. She was the only child of Allen Anderson and Elizabeth Groover Aycock.
Anne graduated from Murphy High School in Atlanta and attended what is now Auburn University. While visiting relatives in Savannah, she met Stuart Breckenridge; they married on Sept. 11, 1954. In Jan. of the following year, Stuart died in a tank accident at Fort Knox, KY, while training as a 2nd lieutenant in the US Army. Following Stuart's untimely death, Anne was reacquainted with one of Stuart's dear friends from college, Norman Sansing. Anne and Norman married on Nov. 3, 1955.
Anne worked part-time at the Business Services Building at UGA for a number of years and was a dedicated member of the ARMC Auxiliary for 17 years, where she served as scholarship chair and treasurer. She was a devoted mother, immaculate housekeeper, and a gifted cook who mastered the art of the picture-perfect lemon meringue pie. She helped Norman entertain numerous visiting lecturers for the UGA Dept. of Biochemistry and many members of the medical and dental admissions committees from MCG when Norman served as pre-medical and pre-dental advisor at UGA. She was an avid bridge player and she and Norman enjoyed extensive national and international travel during their time together. She maintained the same close circle of friends for the 50 years she lived in Athens and appreciated greatly their help and support during Norman's long illness as well as her own.
Anne Aycock Sansing was predeceased by her parents and her husband of 55 years, Norman Sansing. She is survived by her three daughters: Joyce Anne Sansing (Ronald C. Smith) of Athens; Susan Bowers (Charlie) of Rock Hill, SC; Beth Gray (John) of Roswell, GA; and her grandchildren, Lauren Elaine Bowers of Charleston, SC; Jefferson Burnham Bowers of Minturn, CO; and Lindsay Elizabeth Gray and Cameron Jane Gray of Roswell.
