Anna Baker

Anna Matthews Baker of Athens died on April 20, 2016 after a brief illness. Ann was born March 27, 1929 in Frankfurt Germany to Ferd and Elle Bernhard. She came to the United States in 1948 with her first husband, Frederick Lee Matthews, who died in 1974. She is survived by her husband Hugh T. Baker, her brother Wolfgang Bernhard (Edletraut) and three children Freddie Lee Matthews Jr (Nancy), Thomas Rex Matthews (Malinda), and Gay M. Neighbors (Andrew). She is also survived by a nephew Peter Bernhard, 6 grand children and 5 great grandchildren. Ann and Hugh married in 1975, and for the next 35 years travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Ann worked at C&S Bank and retired from the University of Georgia Botany Department. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 21st from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Friday, April 22nd at 2:00 P.M. at Evergreen Memorial Park. Please remember the family in your prayers.
