Ann R. McClain

January 13, 1936 — December 9, 2022

Ann R. McClain, of Athens, GA died early Friday morning, December 9, 2022, peacefully at Arbor Terrace. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 15th at Mars Hill Baptist Church in Watkinsville. She was born Caroline Ann Reese on January 13,1936 in Alpharetta, GA, to Clarence and Clara (Coleman) Reese. For 86 years she built a full life, family, career, and beautiful yard at her home in Athens, GA.
Ann Reese and James McClain, Jr. wed in1956 in Alpharetta.  About ten months later Gary was born to the newlyweds and almost two years later, Ronnie arrived to complete their family. However, there was always room in her heart and home for more.
Ann’s work ethic was impressive throughout her life. After raising her sons, she went back to work at the county extension office in Watkinsville.  She later took a job with the Vet School at UGA and completed her career working as the Human Resource Director for the UGA Athletic Association.  She was truly a Bulldog Fan who loved tailgating with her husband James, family and friends.
She took full advantage of her retirement, enjoying all the things on her bucket list: working with stained glass, singing with the Athens Choral Society, volunteering at Piedmont Hospital, a faithful servant at her church, and taking care of her garden year-round.  Ann had some special gifts, one being a gracious southern hostess and cook to family and friends, who she deeply loved.  She was much beloved as a wife, mother and grandmother.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband James F. McClain, Jr. and all five of her siblings, herself being the youngest.  Sisters: Martha Jones, Buchanan, GA and Mary Patten, Cumming, GA; Brothers: Julian Reese, Johnny Reese and Coleman Reese all of Alpharetta, GA.  She is survived by two sons: Gary McClain (Kim) - Lakemont, GA and Ronnie McClain (Fran) – Watkinsville, GA.  Grandchildren: Nikki Culpepper (Jeff), Nicholson, GA; Sarah Smith (Zack), Dacula, GA; Hannah Binkley (Jake), Watkinsville, GA; Lauren Morris (Todd), Athens, GA; Megan Lovelace (Garrett), Cherokee Co, GA; Corri Hill (Gabe), San Antonio, TX; Josh Stough (Ashley), Bogart, GA; Lane Marie O’Kelley (Luke), Hull, GA.  Great Grandchildren: Nathaniel Smith, Evie Smith, Seth Smith, Ember Smith, Eli Morris, Alex Hill, Andrew Hill, Devin Clarke, Jarrett Binkley, Amelia Hill, Perri Stough, Kelsey Mae Binkley, Madi Kate Lovelace, Estelle O’Kelley.
The family will be receiving friends Thursday, December 15th from 10:00am until 10:45am at Mars Hills Baptist Church Sanctuary, Watkinsville, GA.
