Anita P. Mitcheltree

Anita Purvis Mitcheltree, 75, wife of William H. Mitcheltree, died August 25, 2020. Born in Ocilla, GA, she was the daughter of the late S. A. Purvis and Ruby Taylor Purvis.  Anita was a graduate of Irwin County High School in 1963 and Valdosta  State College in 1967 with a degree in teaching.  She began her teaching career at Abilene Central High School in Abilene, TX before moving back to Ocilla where she taught for three years at Irwin County Middle School.  In 1973, she and Mitch moved to Athens, GA where she would begin her teaching for the Athens Clarke County School System at Lyons Junior High School and retired from Cedar Shoals High School.  In addition to her husband she is survived by one niece: Allison Martin of Washington, DC.  Private graveside services were held on Monday, August 31, 2020 at Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Ocilla, GA. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
