Anita (Sams) Holton

July 11, 1933 — October 21, 2012

Anita Sams Holton of Athens, widow of the late Robert Fulmer Holton, passed away October 21, 2012.
Mrs. Holton was born in Athens, July 11, 1933, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Dobbs Sams.
She was educated at Mount Vernon Junior College and the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, Mrs. Holton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the University of Georgia Presidents Club, the Junior Ladies Garden Club, the Junior League of Athens, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America and a number of other genealogical societies. She was also active in the Athens Clarke Heritage Foundation, the Athens Historical Society, the Botanical Garden, the house committee of the Friends of the Ware Lyndon House and was a founding member of the Friends of Oconee Hill Cemetery. She also enjoyed membership in the Wednesday Study Club and the Rabun Gap Nacooche Guild.
A loving and much loved mother and grandmother, she was a gracious hostess and especially enjoyed entertaining at her lovely summer home at Lake Burton. She loved to travel and took numerous trips with M.O. and Greg Phelps and group and with her late husband. She was a very loyal Georgia Football supporter and rarely missed a home game.
Survivors include two brothers, Albert Dobbs Sams, Jr. and Edward Burke Sams, both of Athens; two sons, Dr. Randall Burke Holton of Charleston, S.C. and Albert Travis Holton of Silverthorne, Colorado; one daughter, Anita Holton Griffin of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, David Burke Holton of Aspen, Colorado, Hanna and Katherine Holton of Silverthorne, Colorado, Anita Hampton, Ann Lyndon and William Scott Griffin, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.
Graveside services will be Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Oconee Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the residence, 126 Princeton Mill Road, Athens, GA 30606.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Athens Clarke Heritage Foundation for the Ware Lyndon House.
Lord and Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
