Anita Louise "Nita" (Smith) Harris

April 16, 1936 — January 6, 2017

Anita Smith Harris, born April 16, 1936, to George William and Beulah McClain Smith, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 following a brief period of declining health.
Nita was a lifelong homemaker and partner, loving and nurturing to her family and friends. She was one of those very special people whose love and compassion was felt by everyone who knew her. She was an active member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church until her health would no longer allow.
In addition to her parents, Nita was preceded in death by an infant son, Stanley Harris and her brother, Mickey Smith.
Survivors include her childhood sweetheart and husband of more than 64 years, Charles Pinson "Penny" Harris of Lexington, GA; four children, Debby Harris Powell, Stevie Harris (Donna), Shayne Harris all of Lexington, GA and Donna Harris Patterson (Mike) of McLeansboro, IL; seven grandchildren Penni Nix Walden (Steve), Missy Cummings Burkett (Dee), Ty Cummings, Coty Harris, Kayla Harris Miller (Brandon), Shanna Harris and Stephanie Harris; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Smith; one sister, Joyce Stevens and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 8, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Lord and Stephens, East. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00. Pallbearers will be Randy Carter, Bruce Carter, Steve Walden, Vance Mattox, Ross Holcomb and Chad Duffell.
In lieu of flowers, because of her love for children, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
