Angelo Vincent Maisto, a native of the coastal town of Mola di Bari, Italy, peacefully passed away on September 25, 2023. Angelo was born on January 4, 1926, and he lived a life filled with hard work, determination, and dedication throughout his 97 years.
As a new citizen, Angelo proudly served his country in the United States Army. His dedication of military service was a testament of his patriotism. Many were positively influenced by Angelo's love for God and country, making right decisions, and jovial spirit.
At a military dance in Atlanta, Angelo fell in love with and later married his bell of the ball, Diva Lucchesi. Following his military service, Angelo embarked on a career with Con Edison in New York. He enjoyed a fulfilling career, and ultimately retired relocating to Georgia to be near his two grandchildren.
In addition to his professional achievements, Angelo had a deep love for God, an affinity for Italian soccer, and American baseball. He was an avid fan of Juventus Italian soccer and the Atlanta Braves, always following their triumphs and setbacks with unwavering enthusiasm. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to his garden, nurturing both vibrant flowers and nourishing vegetables. Angelo’s love for gardening was a reflection of his passionate spirit.
Traveling brought Angelo joy. Exploring new places, experiencing different cultures, and making memories with loved ones were among his favorite past times. Angelo Vincent Maisto will be remembered for his enduring love for his family, his dedication to his family and country, and his zest for life.
He is predeceased by both parents Joseph and Romana Maisto, and by his two sisters Rose Caramico and Mary Clemente.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Diva Lucchesi Maisto, brother Vincent Maisto (Margaret), sister Cathy Iovine (Vincent), his daughter Marisa Grant (Jake), his grandchildren, Jake Jr. and Andrew (Elise), great granddaughter, Olivia, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 3:00PM until 5:00PM on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Lord and Stephens West Chapel.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A private interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monsignor Donovan Catholic High School for the Angelo Maisto Scholarship Fund.
