Allene Tyner Barnett, 100, of Athens, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018. She is reunited with her husband, Amory R. Barnett, whom she married January 7, 1956 and celebrated fifty-two years of marriage together before his death in 2008.
A native of Madison County, GA, she was the daughter of Cletus Tyner and Mary Fowler Tyner. Allene was a member of Central Baptist Church in Athens. A loving mother, wife, and friend, she loved being around people and family, never missing an excuse to celebrate with meals and fellowship. She was a skilled gardener who canned and froze her own produce. She also enjoyed singing, playing the guitar, dancing, and quilting.
Though Allene suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and other medical issues, she was tenderly cared for full-time by her only daughter, Betty Ann Barnett, for the past eight and a half years. Along with Betty Ann, Allene leaves behind the many friends she made through her gift to make everyone feel welcome and loved.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 2 PM at Central Baptist Church. Interment will be in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 9 PM at the funeral home.
