Allen Eugene Dooley

Allen Eugene Dooley, age 89, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

A native of Hart County; but a resident of Oconee for most of his life, Mr. Dooley was the son of the late James R. Griffin Dooley and Ethel (Pullen) Dooley. He was also preceded in death by his brothers; William Alfred Dooley, of Suffolk, Virginia, Dr. Bobby J. Dooley, Aurora, Co; sister: Miriam “Anne” Graham of St. Simons Island, GA and a close cousin: Larry Lewis, of Hartwell, GA.

Allen married his high school girlfriend, Hazel June Hardigree, a native and life-time resident of Oconee County. They married on May 12, 1957, at Antioch Christian Church.

He was a member of Union Christian Church, Watkinsville, GA, where he served as a Deacon early on, and has helped with the church BBQ’s for many years. He served in the US Army 1958-1960 and continued his service in the U.S. Army Reserve for about seven years.

He worked at the Southern Piedmont Research Center, in Watkinsville, for thirty-six years and seven months; retiring from there on July 5, 1996.

In his retirement, Allen enjoyed gardening, working on equipment and doing odd jobs around the yard with his tractor. He especially liked meeting with his coffee club friends every morning, (except on Sundays) and he always liked a diet coke.

He enjoyed driving his “Prius-Auto” and seeing 55mpg on the dash.

In his golden years, he found much contentment at home, with his wife; contentment is the life.

Survivors include his wife: Hazel June Dooley; brother: James E. Dooley of Eatonton, GA, Charles D. Dooley (Betty), Hull, GA; brother-in-law: Ralph Graham, St. Simons Island, GA; sister-in-law: Rita Dooley, Suffolk, Virginia. He is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews, their children, a number of cousins and his sweet little four legged companion Brooklyn. 

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 2PM at Antioch Christian Church with Rev. Michael Woelfl officiating. The family will receive friends from 1PM until 2PM prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Antioch Christian Church Cemetery.

Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Antioch Christian Church and or Union Christian Church.
