Allan David Gray

Allan David Gray, beloved father, grandfather and brother, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024, two weeks shy of his 76th birthday.

Born in Waycross, Georgia, he was a son of the late Harvey C. Gray, Sr. and Annie Louise Williams Gray. Having grown up in a family of beekeepers, Mr. Gray had an incredible work ethic and was a lifelong truck driver. He worked for Benson’s/Flowers Bakery for more than 20 years and was known commonly in Athens as “the breadman” and he always wore his suspenders. Allan also worked for McLane Southeast before he retired. He was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church, The Athens Jaycees and enjoyed gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Allan D. Gray, Jr. “Lan” and his siblings, Mary Henderson and Marcus Gray.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hinnant Gray; children, Heather Gray-Jordan (Richard), Summer Robinson, Dawn Gray and David Allan Gray; brother; Dr. Leonard Gray, PhD and one brother that passed away the same day as he did, Harvey Gray; and four grandchildren, MadelineRose Jordan, LilyGrace Jordan, Birch Robinson and Holden Gray.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 3:00PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00PM at the funeral home.
