Alice A. Shotick, age 101, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Nov. 23, 2024. She passed peacefully in her Watkinsville, Ga., home where she had resided for 64 years.
Alice was born on Nov. 13, 1923, in Germany Valley, Huntingdon County, Pa., to Horace R. (Harry) and Olive Runk Scott. Her parents, sisters Erma Stephens, Marie Smith, Edith Roles and Adele Hooley and brother Horace Scott, all of Pennsylvania, and her beloved husband, Dr. Andrew L. Shotick, preceded her in death.
Alice was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and like a mom to many. She was adored by her family. Her faith in Christ was evident in all aspects of her life. She had a genuine interest in people and was a great listener, with a gift for making family and friends feel incredibly special. Her home was a place everyone loved to be because it was filled with warmth.
Alice was a World War II veteran who served in the Army Air Forces. She then lived in Pennsylvania, South Dakota and California before moving to Georgia. For 46 years, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Athens, where she was involved in many areas such as the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the church library. (In more recent years, she had attended Church of the Nations, formerly Living Faith Fellowship.) During the 1970s and ’80s, she was an assistant at the Oconee County Library for 10 years, working with librarian Billie Brown, her dear friend.
Alice and her former husband, the late James E. Pallas Jr., married in 1947 and had five children. In 1982, she and Andy Shotick were united in marriage, combining two families.
Alice is survived by her five children: Col. (Ret.) Jimmy Pallas (Joyce) of Chesterfield, Va.; Diane Cartey (John) of Martin, Ga.; Dr. Randy Pallas (Genevieve) of Wyomissing, Pa.; Dr. David Pallas (Jennifer) of Marietta, Ga.; and Janice Lavender (Rick) of Watkinsville. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Dr. Barbara Hicks (Bryan), James Pallas IV, Lt. Col. Jeremy Pallas (April), Sean Cartey (Ali), Jackie Druck (Brian), Dr. Scott Pallas (Liz), Dr. Chris Pallas (Lindsey), Ethan Pallas, Jack Pallas, Dr. Jordan Lavender (Elizabeth), Rebekah Lavender (Blake) and Josiah Lavender (Mieke); eleven great-grandchildren, Justin Hicks, Zoe Hicks, Ava Pallas, Jackson Pallas, Aiden Pallas, Maxton Salter, Gunner Fuller, Arry Cartey, Jude Druck, Piper Druck and Callan Pallas; four step-children; and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2024, at Oconee Chapel, 2370 Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677. Pastor Dave Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in Oconee Memorial Park, beside the chapel. Alice’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a preferred church or charity.
